Building Maintenance - Term Position

The City of Winkler plays an important role in giving quality of life to our community by providing many services such as water distribution and treatment, infrastructure, recreation, and administration.  Our Maintenance team is looking for a positive and loyal individual that has a desire and commitment to serve the public by filling the role of Building Maintenance at City Hall. 

What You’ll Do:

Working together with the rest of the City Hall Maintenance team, you will be involved in various activities in the maintenance and repairs of City Hall and it’s surrounding green spaces.
 Job Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain City owned facilities, infrastructure, and grounds at City Hall, Library, Concert Hall, Fire Hall, and Bethel Park
  • Assist and work together with other team members of the maintenance staff
  • Operate a pickup truck, mowers and trimmers, utility vehicles, power hand tools, hand tools, landscape & grading tools, and snow blower, snow shovels & scrapers, 
  • Performs and facilitates projects such as Carpentry (Framing, drywall, taping, painting, flooring) plumbing, mechanical/HVAC systems, duct work, low voltage electrical, 
  • Performs maintenance and beautification such as minor tree pruning, planting, landscaping, mowing, trimming, watering, weeding, snow blowing and shoveling, etc.
  • Performs in-house manufacturing projects
  • Custodial/Janitorial duties as required 
  • Make repairs and services equipment, facilities, grounds, and infrastructure
  • Follows all safe work procedures
  • To keep supervisor informed and up to date on all tasks and projects
  • Report required equipment and facility maintenance to supervisor
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills You’ll Need: 

  • Ability to work well with a team and independently 
  • Good verbal and written communication skills 
  • Work effectively with minimal supervision
  • A criminal record check will be required
  • Grade XII education is an asset, but not required.  Suitable combination of education and/or several years of related experience is an asset
  • Class 5 driver’s license required
  • Experience in operation and maintenance of light equipment an asset
  • May be required to obtain weed application license (If and when deemed necessary)
  • Basic first aid, CPR, WHIMIS are required. 
  • Basic, mechanical/maintenance, janitorial, carpentry, plumbing, Hvac/mechanical systems, low voltage electrical skills are required
  • Be physically capable of performing work tasks
  • Must be safety conscious in all matters related to maintenance, staff, and the public

Job Details:

Full-time, 1 year term position with the possibility of an extended term or a permanent position.
Monday to Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm with the potential for some on-call or after hour duties
