Education and Health are important in Winklers community and economic life. The two sectors employ almost one fifth of the work force in the City of Winkler and the surrounding R.M. of Stanley. They have combined annual budget of just under 30 million dollars.

Boundary Trails Health Center
The Boundary Trails Health Centre is a 94-bed acute care regional facility. Services included are Home Care, Public Health, Mental Health, Emergency, Ambulatory Care Clinics, Intensive Care, Observation, Diagnostics, Laboratory, Medical, Surgery, Day Surgery, Obstetrics, Chemotherapy, Dialysis, Rehab/Assess and Rehab Services OT/PT, Speech and Audiology. It is located between Winkler and Morden on highway 14.

Salem Home Inc.
Salem Home Inc. is a 145 bed, faith-based, accredited personal care home. Services include integrated care units, Alzheimer care, a Special Care Unit dedicated to the assessment and care of elders unable to integrate into a regular personal care home, an Adult Day Program and a Meals on Wheels Program. The Governing Board is currently exploring opportunities to develop a community based Supportive Care Program.

The Dr. C. W. Wiebe Medical Center
The Dr. C. W. Wiebe Medical Center, which opened on June 1, 2001, is a state-of-the-art clinic serving Winkler and surrounding areas. The Center presently has 19 family physicians, one surgeon and one internist and features an Urgent Care Center which offers extended hours for non-life threatening situations on a walk-in basis. In addition, the Medical Center operates a digital-imaging system that is connected to the Boundary Trails Health Center.

ALG Professional Center
The ALG Professional Center, owned by A L Group Companies, is located at 351 Main Street in the central business district of Winkler. This is a newly renovated building with a focus on Health/Wellness Tenancy, with the anchor tenant being the Dr. C. W. Wiebe Medical Center that includes Urgent Care Services. Other current tenants with focuses on health include Eden Health Care Service, Dean’s RX Pharmacy, Ely’s Denture Clinic, Midwifery Services of Central Manitoba RHA, Heartland Herbs, Pregnancy Crisis Centre, and the Cornerstone Dental Centre. Tenants offering professional services include CIBC, Derksen Accounting, Leatherdale Insurance Agencies, Schmidt Sewing Machines, and Hairway Studios. Eden Health Care Services
Eden Health Care Services is the umbrella organization for a range of mental health programs including residential care services, counseling, acute psychiatric care, and employment training. Eden Mental Health Center, in addition to its 40 bed In Patient Unit also provides mental health services to more than 1000 persons annually through its Community Services Dept. Eden Health Care Services also operates two residential care facilities in Winkler including Enns Court supported housing apartment and Linden Place Community Residence. Recovery of Hope Counseling Service provides professional counseling on a fee for service basis. The Eden Foundation raises funds through various events for programs that are under-funded. Community Health
Home Care
The Manitoba Home Care Program is a community-based program that provides home support to individuals, regardless of age, who require health service or assistance with activities of daily living. Home care works with individuals and provides assistance to help them stay in their homes for as long as safely possible. Anybody can make a referral to home care. Services provided by Home Care are:
- Personal care assistance such as bathing, dressing, toileting, and mobility.
- Health care. Nurses can provide nursing care. Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist referrals can be made on a client’s behalf
- Family Relief to provide short periods of in-home relief for the family care-giver.
- Supplies & equipment. Some supplies & equipment needed for client care may be available through home care.
- Adult Day Program and Meals on Wheels can be accessed through home care.
- Application to Personal Care Home is completed with assistance from home care coordinators.
- The Manitoba Home Oxygen Program which provides oxygen concentrators to qualifying clients is monitored by home care.

South Central Cancer Resource
SCCR provides programs and services to people living with cancer in South Central Manitoba. This includes loan banks of wigs, head coverings, bras and breast prostheses, resource material about cancer and related topics, assistance with transportation to cancer appointments and support groups.
Meals on Wheels
The Meals on Wheels program functions out of the Salem Personal Care Home. Assessments are done by the Home Care office, and clients who are unable to provide their own food are delivered hot meals.
