About The Winkler Community Foundation
The Winkler Community Foundation (WCF) is a charitable organization that builds endowment funds to provide ongoing support for other local non-profit and charitable organizations in Winkler and surrounding area. The income earned by these funds is used to give grants to a wide range of community groups, while the original investment is left to grow generating more funds to grant in the future.
The Foundation was initiated by local businessman and philanthropist Max Gladstone. In 1994 the Thomas Sill Foundation challenged the Winkler Community Foundation with a matching grant proposal whereby the foundation would raise $100,000 over four years and the Sill Foundation would match it. This goal was achieved and a new goal of reaching $500,000 by 2003 with a long-term goal of reaching $1,000,000 as soon as possible was set.
As of December 31, 2010, the total assets of the WCF are $702,656.00.
From 1996-2011, WCF has granted just over $412,800.00 back to the community of Winkler and surrounding area. These grants have supported capital purchases, new programs and scholarships of 65 different local non-profit and charitable organizations.
Over $290,338 has gone back into our community in the form of Community grants, $34,730 in the form of Flow-through grants, $13,310 through Youth in Philanthropy Community grants, and over $900 through Agency Endowment Funds. That means $412,864 has been granted back to the Community of Winkler and surrounding area over the last 15 years.
WCF currently has five different funds:
